My attempt at knitting with 2 circulars didn't go too well. Tonight I am finishing piggy gloves for my DGD to wear tomorrow to school. It is supposed to snow soon! I ordered addi 40" needles that I hope will make things easier. We'll see.

Done

I enjoyed knitting 2 socks at a time. I really finished them about a week. I washed then yesterday and they are still big, oh well. I even put them in the dryer, hoping they would shrink some. No luck.
Since completing these, I have found out lots of things I wish I had done after the fact. So I am ready to try another pair to get a better fit. First of all, 64 total stitches was to many for these socks, I think it was because of the Koigu and using size 2 needles. Next time I will use size 1 for this yarn.

I will do toe up socks again. The biggest problem I seem to have is with the bind off. I had to redo it a couple of times. The best result was with a needle several sizes larger. Now that I'm finished I have found a better bind off, so I will do it on my next pair.. Elizabeth Zimmermans stretchy bind off. Looks easy and I think it will do the trick.
One way or the other I am going to get the perfect pair of socks. I have come to the conclusion that I can enjoy the Journey as well as the destination♥

Altho the pattern says to knit the cuff for 7 inches, I'm ready to start the heel part now. I have very short legs and feet so I only want a cuff part that is around 4 inches. I just wanted to post so you all will know that I'm still working on my socks.

going up the legs

As you can see I am going upward.. But for some reason,, I am loosing my drive. I decided to pick a pattern from Wendy Johnson's new book. Sock from the Toe Up, which I got a few weeks ago. I chose the Diagonal Lace pattern.. It's only 10 rows and knit every other.and for some reason it's been a challenge for me.
I already know that these socks are going to be BIG,,, but I will have to worry about that later. I just want to get to the top. I found another skein of koigu in the same colorway, so I would like to make them longer. I usually do the shortest sock I can do.
And after doing more than half of this sock on circulars together.. I must confess. I had to separate them and now I am doing them one at a time.. this was after I was frustrated because I was knitting with the wrong ball on the wrong sock for a couple of rows... I thought by now I would be use to all the needles and be able to keep them straight. It hasn't been so easy for me.. I think I will make my next socks.. magic loop.. at least I won't get the needles mixed up♥

finally back at the socks

I have been in such a blah mood about my socks. Think it was after I posted the last post showing the mistakes on the cuff of one of them. NOrmally I'd frog it back and fix it but this time I didn't so I just put them down and left them.
Just seeing Vanessa's and Cici's progress on their socks gave me the umpf I needed to get back at them. Hopefully the umpf will stay with me for a while!!

Ack

life got so crazy last week, I forgot to post about socks here. I did on my blog..but bloody little that does for here, huh?

I love how everyone's are looking.

I gave up with the thin sock yarn and doing it in similar colors....so I am using patons classic and sock yarn coupled together to make a set of fraternal twin socks. That has totally helped. Here's what I did last Wednesday while I was at the er with D. Or was it Tuesday? Like I remember! She's good, ct scan clear, and the dizziness subsided over the weekend, PTL.......and then I got busy knitting my mom's mother's day gift. I wouldn't want to push it to the wire or anything! Bwahahahahahahahaha. Yeah, I'm past that, but I'm still plugging along. It's been too sunny to knit. I've been OUTSIDE. Rain is pending, so hopefully once I catch up on the inside work, I can hit the socks again!

Making Progress

CAJ 50th 105

I was away this past week and I was able to get some good knitting in. It takes some getting use to the both needles. I had to put two different needles to make it easier. I kept picking up the wrong one. I am almost ready to turn the heel. I will take another photo when I have completed that part♥

Update

wow. I'm seeing some great looking starts.

Patt - thanks for showing us how you are keeping things straight...I just may take you up on some of those ideas.

I'll be honest...I've been way too emotionally strung out (ie highly ticked off) to give it another shot. I would have already thrown the yarn out by now. Even my easy knitting is making me mad. Why? Because I was ALREADY mad.

Now, I'm sure y'all have been there and done that. Knit on you fearless women. May I be able to rejoin your ranks next week!

Back on Track

Ok I have cast back on and started paying lots more attention to what I'm doing.

First on the right hand side is a blue stitch marker. That denotes (for me) my starting of my sock and also that this is the first sock knit on or sock #1(see angled arrow).

And on the left side (see straight arrow) that shows the sock I am working on at the moment by being on the needle. That way I know which sock to work on when I pick it up again.

And the little white stars mark the chicken stitchmarkers that I am using to show myself the middle of each sock so later on I won't have to count out the stitches.

What are you all doing to keep things straight in your heads?

Try, Try, Again

I started again, on different yarn this time. I didn't like the malabrigo. Now I am using Koigu this time, mainly because I had already pre wound it. I am using one addi lace 47 inch. It takes some getting use to the cord twisting. I think once I get further, it might be easier.
Wish me luck

sock progress

OK here are my toe up socks i am doing on two circle needles i am slowly getting there lol..

dang it

just had to frog both my socks. Somehow I got it turned around and I didn't know which to knit on. I only had most of the cuff done so at least it's not all bad. Now I'm casting on again.
Cici your's are looking good. as are the rest of yours.
HOw are the rest of you doing? Having problems?
I think I have the prob when I pick up to start knitting again after a while. I gotta figure out how to remember which one I worked on last.

here I go

hello all.. I have finally casted on, but it's not working out quite as I had thought. It takes some getting use to all the cords and yarns while you try to keep everything in proper order.
My problem is that one of my toes is looking longer than the other. I guess i understood the instructions wrong. I started with 2 needles. I think I will change to one needle next. I couldn't figure it out!!! I think I need lots of help♥

On 3rd row

Kathy, you can do it. I couldn't figure it out so what I did was just to cast on all stitches needed and then start to work on one sock all around then do next sock all around. then on to next sock for 2nd row.

I'm gonna put a marker on my first sock so I'll know which is which and will put it on the beginning of 1st sock so I'll know the start. I could put a different sort of marker on the 2nds sock in the start so I will know.

Vanessa knows how to do this already I can see. go Nessa!!!

Help us as much as you can.

Ok I am jumping in with eyes wide shut

Doesn't that look beautiful? I stopped at the LYS this morning and bought a new pair of Addie Turbos 47" long size 2 and while I was there I picked up more sock yarn, I decided on this yarn because it came in 2 balls so I didn't have to seperate the yarn. Smart I am, right?

Well perhaps SMART is not the best word to describe me. I sat here all afternoon and looked at my new yarn and needles. Afraid to make a mess of them. But I have to stop being afraid of everything. YES things are changing and I need to start embracing the NEW, because the Old isn;'t cutting it anymore. So I started...
And now I am crying. Stuck... confused... baffled... I watched all the tutorials, read all the instructions, knitted 28 stitches of k2, p2 on the first section of cast on stitches... BUT where do I go now, onto the second sock? Everything looks twisted.
I need someone to come here and hold my hand. PLEASE???

This mess is my mess

Here it is.

My magnificent start. :D

One row down, more than I care to count to go.

I'm really hoping I understand what's what by the time I'm done with the ribbing!!!

What is that about slow and steady winning the race?

can I tell you all that I LOVE the colorways you are knitting with. It makes me DROOL!!!

UPDATE (Wednesday): I did something silly wrong and had things going the wrong way. I've frogged, and I am casting on in two different colors until I get my brain moving the correct direction. I'm sure I turned my knitting at some point....I'm just not willing to tink to find out WHAT point!

Since I can not do Ankle first socks lol

Ok since I really honestly can not do ankle first socks ( i make them way to small) I am doing the toe up version.... here is my picture so far I am at a dead stop though for now :(

I cast on too

Here is my first attempt. I've cast on plus did the first round on each sock. What messed me up was this. I cast on 28 st with one ball of yarn, then cast on 56 st with the 2nd ball. Then it says to cast on the rest of the first balls st. but my cast on yarn was in the middle of the cable and I had no way to cast on the rest. So I put those st (1st 28) on the right hand needle and cast on the other 28 st and then put all 56 st back on the left hand needle. NOw I'm just going to start on the ribbing part of the pattern.

CAST ON!!!

So far so good LOL! I decided to go with the cast on in the book instead of the one in the pattern, just because it seemed less confusing - maybe I'll regret that!

Wooohoooooo

I just got my needles and my books and yarn in. Now I understand what Jane meant by tangled web. lol That is in the book by Melissa Morgan-Oakes.
I think that I will be a bit confused for the first part but I am certain I can get this. Jane I too love the Bella Epoque pattern. Once we have this conqured lets do that pattern together.
Well how ready is everyone? Let us know.

Tangled Web

The 2-at-a-time socks book I have says that you will think you have nothing but a big pile of twisted cable, lost needles, and tangled yarn (Wow! I'm really looking forward to that!) - but not to give up - it will all make sense soon.
Another suggestion is to put one ball of yarn in each of two baggies with holes cut in the corners to pull the yarn through so that you don't get the two yarns mixed up. That sounds like a plan to me!

Magic loop tutorials

I'm needing some tutorials on this magic loop stuff so here is one on you tube:

and another one : http://www.knittinghelp.com/videos/advanced-techniques

I plan on checking them all out, especially the last one and maybe a few more before I start my socks.

Same pattern

I think we need to do the same pattern. And 2 cuff down on 1 circular has been voted most popular so that's what we' ll be doing.
Here is a free plain pattern that we can all do. http://www.tostetoes.com/twosocksoneneedle.htm
Do you all agree with it? If so lets get our materials together and we can begin as soon as we are all ready.

2-at-a-time

I bought the Melissa Morgan Oakes 2-at-a-time book with my 50% off coupon at A.C.Moore. I love the Belle Epoque socks in the book. I think I voted for top down, but not sure why, except I didn't like doing the heel when I tried the toe up. Now I have to look through my stash for some sock yarn. Are we all doing the same pattern? If we are choosing our own, I think I'll go with something plain so I don't have too much to think about while I'm learning to do 2 at a time.

Found a GREAT site

Ok for those who are wantting to learn toe up on the Circular if there is anyone but me lol... I found this GREAT site..AND PATT go to the BIND OFF you will like the cuff part I promise :).....Any ways here is the site enjoy :) http://www.cometosilver.com/socks/2circsocks_start.htm

Vanessa here and ready for a Sock KAL

I can't wait to do this Kal...I am so excited it has been forever since I did a KAL huh Patt lol..I think the last one I did was the felted purse we did over a year ago lol...I have my yarn and needles ready :)
I voted on TOE up on Circle needles because I suck no really lol thats the only word I can come up with lol I suck at cuff down lol...I have more control over the foot part I NEVER make my socks to fit me when I do the cuff down lol...NOW PATT on the cuff part this is what my friend and I do if you are going to make the socks with a size 1 or 2 needle go up to a 4 or 5 for the cuff it helps a great deal~! I have VERY thick calves I LOVE ankle socks just because I hate making socks to fit me lol...Hope that helped OH and Magic Loop is soo easy and fun...need any help patt let me know I can see what I can do :)

TTFN

Why I voted for the 2 cuff down on ml

Ok I voted for the 2 cuff down on 1 circular or magic loop needle. My reason for this is when I did the Mojo sock and I was binding off for the cuff, I had to frog it 2 times and the last time I did the bind off it was still too tight for my leg. I know with the cuff down patterns I can have more control over the cuff. Also I really didn't like the afterthought heel. It did end up nice looking but I like making the heel flap and all that. And when doing the mojo sock I used 2 circular needles so I know I can do that. It was easier for me that the dp needles becasue I didn't lose so many stitches. And so now I need to learn the magic loop method.lol ON the sock above I actually pushed the cuff down so it would fit. bummer.

What did you all vote for and why?

I Want To Love Knitting Socks!

I really do! But it hasn't happened yet. I finish one and then never start the other. I think I could start a new fashion trend wearing two different socks -how about that? So, I'm thinking - knitting two at a time is the way to go.

Welcome

Happy Friday!

Just want to welcome Kathy, Shelly, Jane and Nate to the blog. Please post anytime you feel like it.

I will be posting a poll on the side bar in a minute so don't forget to check it out and vote for what you'd like to do first.

When I ordered the 2 books from KnitPicks yesterday I also ordered a 40 inch size 2 circular needle. That will be a prize for our first contest, once we get started. and also ordered 2 balls of the felici sock yarn that was on closeout, in the color Patini. That will also be used as a prize. Guess I will borrow an idea from Jane and get our prize locker started!

Nate is in the house

Nate is here ready for a KAL! What do we need and when do we start?
